Revisit Leigh Hobbs's event with ABC Splash

Last week the Australian Children's Laureate for 2016/17 – Leigh Hobbs – took part in a live interview and Q&A on ABC Splash with Anna Burkey from the Centre for Youth Literature at the State Library Victoria.

Leigh answered questions from students and schools across Australia, did some demonstrative drawing and offered his advice to budding writers and artists too.

Watch the video of the event here (it goes for 30 minutes).

Here's a great photo from @kallicanl of students at Calrossy Primary School in Tamworth, NSW watching the live event.

And here are a couple of questions Leigh answered just on social media.

The ABC Splash event ended with the announcement of a Create A Character competition.

Here are the details:

What kind of character can you create? Mean or friendly? Wise or silly? Larger than life or teeny tiny? We want to meet your character!

Draw it, take a photo of it and upload once you've clicked 'Enter'  - don't forget to include a one-line description of your character with your entry.

Eight of the most inventive, creative characters with descriptions will win a Leigh Hobbs book signed by the author!

Comp closes 5pm, Friday 8 April.

Enter the competition here.

Big thanks to our friends at ABC Splash, the Centre for Youth Literature and the State Library of Victoria for making this event a reality. It was a great to introduce Australia to Laureate Leigh in the opening weeks of his two-year term.
