Off we go!

It’s impossible to go everywhere in a year, but that won’t stop Leigh Hobbs from trying.

In 2017 the Australian Children’s Laureate continues to spread the message of creativity, discovering the world through books, and the importance of libraries. You will see Leigh from Adelaide to Newcastle, Hobart to Hong Kong and Hay-on-Wye, Brisbane to Bologna, and Sydney to the world.

Horrible Harriet and her friend Mr Chicken, coming to the Sydney Opera House

On 2 March Leigh will be live-streamed in conversation to all schools, courtesy of the Sydney Opera House, where the play Horrible Harriet is live on stage in April. And wherever Harriet goes, Mr Chicken is sure to be close by! Schools in Australia can register for free here. International schools can also register.

Last week we received some really exciting news from Bendigo, which unfortunately just has to stay under wraps for now. Leigh will also be at work in Perth, Fremantle and regional Western Australia, regional South Australia and Melbourne.

You can stay up to date with Leigh Hobbs and the Australian Children’s Literature Alliance at our busy Facebook page and on Twitter  – follow us on @ozlaureate.

Special thanks to our major supporters the Australia Council for the Arts, Copyright Agency Cultural Fund and Reading Australia, without whom...and to Leigh's publishers Allen & Unwin.

The Laureate program needs your support, too. Please consider making a donation: we are DGR certified so amounts over $2 are tax deductible. Please visit the Donations page. Right now we are working towards the 2018-19 Laureate and creating a stronger ACLA – your financial help is really appreciated.

If you have any questions at all about the Australian Children's Laureate, please contact Mike Shuttleworth, the Program Manager.

See you on the road!
