Supporting the Australian Children's Laureate

To deliver a program as big and as busy as the Australian Children's Laureate takes a huge amount of behind-the-scenes work. Funding received from the Australia Council and the Cultural Fund of the Copyright Agency meets immediate costs of the Laureate tours and some appearances. But the organising, planning, phoning, emails, publicising, sharing and reporting isn't covered. So we are asking for your help.

Our office team is small – less than 0.5FTE. In May 2017 alone, we have organised for the Laureate to champion reading and creativity, from small outback South Australians schools to the biggest literary festival in the United Kingdom. Later this year Leigh Hobbs will be in Tasmania, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Melbourne, the Kimberleys in Western Australia, and Fremantle. This year Leigh has already been in Sydney, Italy, Hong Kong and Byron Bay. And we continue to promote reading and to advocate for libraries.

Our professional program draws on a lot of voluntary labour, including a dedicated, hard-working board. But it takes more than free work. If you believe the work of the Children's Laureate program is valuable, please consider making a donation before 30 June.

Your donation to the Australian Children's Laureate program is fully tax deductible. Please visit our Give Now page and donate to help us continue our work.
